Free cooling in the server room

The HDB – DATABATIC System, air-to-air systems for data centers with adiabatic system, brings many advantages to your data center as an indirect free-cooling system. In contrast to direct free cooling, indirect free cooling does not allow the indoor air in the data center to mix with the outside air. Dust and pollutants do not enter the server or IT rooms. So another filter is not necessary here. The latent load does not increase, which significantly reduces the energy consumption for the management of the system.

Plug-fan fans with EC motor for IT air conditioning

EC ventilation for both air streams provides:
• Higher efficiency even in partial load operation
• Reduction of noise emissions
• Precise tracking of heat load fluctuations
The consumption of the A/C fans in the Hot Swappable Fans configuration is shown in real time on the display on the unit.

Supplement with direct evaporation or with cold water / Free cooling

If the outdoor climatic conditions do not allow the entire load to be covered exclusively by indirect free-cooling + evaporative cooling, supplementation with mechanical cooling is necessary. For this purpose, the refrigeration circuit with modulating BLDC compressors with R410A, electronically controlled expansion valve and evaporator with hydrophilic fin coating is available as an option. Alternatively, a chilled water heat exchanger can be installed and connected to an external chiller.

The combination of an evaporative cooling system and an air-to-air heat exchanger with intersecting air flows from the HDB – DataBatic series increases the number of hours per year for indirect free-cooling in the data center and for more climate zones. The reduction (and in some cases even the complete shutdown) of mechanical operation therefore brings a double benefit for the consumer:

  1. a reduction in the operating costs for the management of the plant through higher annual energy efficiency (lower PUE)
  2. a reduction in implementation costs thanks to the lower installed electrical capacities. The HDB units can accommodate the “refrigeration circuit” option and are assembled completely as a monoblock at the factory
  3. Indirect free-cooling to facilitate installation work.
