UPS Systems Software ESS Energy Saver System

  • Software for Eaton UPS and UPS Systems
  • Standard Double Conversion Mode: The UPS works as usual, supplying power through its power converters.
  • ESS mode: The UPS supplies mains power directly via static bypass, but its power converters run along in readiness.
  • UPS bypass circuit
  • High Standby Mode: The UPS automatically switches from ESS to double-conversion mode, and in the event of multiple recurrent mains disturbances, it remains there for a configured Time span (default: 1h) until a return to ESS mode is certain.

UPS software for UPS system Eaton

The increasing demand for highly available, reliable and efficient power supply is a permanent challenge for data center and server room operators. Greater energy efficiency helps to counter the increasing pressures of environmental issues, regulations and economics. Under the umbrella term “Energy Advantage Architecture”, Eaton has developed its own innovative technologies that improve system efficiency without compromising reliability. One of these technologies is the Energy Saver System (ESS) for Eaton UPS systems.

Software for UPS systems and UPS systems

With 85% fewer losses in the UPS, Eaton’s ESS technology significantly reduces energy consumption, environmental impact and electricity costs without compromising load protection. Due to this maximum energy savings, the UPS system usually pays for itself completely in about 3 to 5 years. Eaton’s ESS enables market-leading 99% efficiencies across the entire work range. Compared to conventional “Eco Mode” of the predecessor products, the ESS Energy Saver system ensures the best possible efficiency and fastest changeover times to UPS double-conversion operation in the event of grid disturbances.

Maximum energy savings with UPS software

In ESS mode, the Eaton UPS system provides direct and reliable mains power to the load, as long as the mains voltage and frequency are within certain limits. When the mains voltage or frequency leaves a preset value range, the UPS switches to double-conversion operation. As soon as the input mains supply exceeds the tolerance range of the system, the UPS continues to supply the load via the available batteries. Using sophisticated detection and control algorithms, the UPS continuously monitors the supply quality at the input and can switch to inverter operation in less than 2ms if the mains voltage or frequency leaves the predefined range. This ensures the supply of the critical load at all times and at the same time maximizes efficiency. If the UPS system detects a fault during ESS operation, it can detect whether this fault was caused by the load or before the UPS. In the event of a fault in the bypass input power supply, the UPS immediately switches to the inverter; if the load fails, however, the UPS remains in ESS mode. Eaton’s field-proven technology ensures that the load is reliably and uninterrupted at all times, while the connected equipment is protected without compromise.

Configuring a UPS system with software

Eaton UPS systems with Energy Saver system offer three configurable operating modes:

  1. Standard Double Conversion Mode: The UPS works as usual, supplying power through its power converters.
  2. ESS mode: The UPS supplies mains power directly via static bypass, but its power converters run along in readiness.
  3. High Standby Mode: The UPS system automatically switches from ESS to double-conversion mode, and in the event of multiple recurring mains disturbances, it remains there for a configured
Time span (default: 1h) until a return to ESS mode is certain. The UPS controls the transitions between the operating modes automatically as required and completely seamlessly. This is only possible through the use of transformer-free technologies.

Availability UPS Software with UPS from Eaton

ESS is available on all UPS systems of type 9390 and 9395. Parallel UPS systems also support operation in the ESS mode. All existing installations can be extended with the Eaton ESS functionality.
