Power supply for Mayr-Melnhof wood

Sustainable power supply from the server room professional EPS

Gaishorn / Maria Anzbach – Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding AG is one of the most important timber companies in Europe. Around 2,100 employees at 10 locations process the valuable raw material wood into sawn timber, timber construction elements made of cross-laminated timber and glulam, concrete formwork technology and pellets. Last but not least, Mayr-Melnhof Holz is a driving force in the cross-laminated timber segment. This sustainable building material of the future is produced at the Gaishorn site, among other places. To ensure that all work and processing processes in cross-laminated timber production function smoothly even during faults and maintenance, a reliable, uninterruptible power supply is important. For this reason, Mayr-Melnhof Holz has opted for a complete power infrastructure solution from EPS Electric Power Systems GmbH.

Cross-laminated timber production equipped with Eaton UPS systems

Johannes Haberl, Technical Manager at the Mayr-Melnhof Holz site in Gaishorn, recalls: “This was crucial for investing in efficient and sustainable UPS systems is the fact that, for example, our state-of-the-art production facilities come to a standstill in the event of a power supply disruption. This not only costs time and nerves, but sometimes also a lot of money. In the search for a standard solution that had already been intensively tested for the worst-case scenario, we were convinced by the quality and down-to-earthness of EPS.” After a selection process, Mayr-Melnhof Holz Gaishorn decided in favour of the overall concept of the server room and power supply specialist. The scope of the infrastructure project includes a complete modular, scalable UPS system with UPS systems from the manufacturer Eaton (IT-UPS 93PM Gen2 with 200kVA or 200kW incl. pure lead AGM batteries), an external UPS bypass switch for uninterruptible load switching, temperature and humidity sensors, as well as H2 gas monitoring.

Business continuity thanks to fully modular power modules and EBS bypass switch with UPS communication interface

“For us, the continuous and efficient operation of production plants is a central issue. Thanks to the UPS bypass switch , this is also possible, because in the event of maintenance, we can operate the UPS systems ourselves while operating upright,” emphasizes Johannes Haberl. Dejan Vlajic from Eaton agrees with this statement: “With our 93PM Gen2 UPS system , Eaton offers very high energy efficiency. The UPS helps to reduce electricity costs. Thanks to the hot-swap modules, operation is maintained even during the installation or maintenance of the UPS systems. In addition, the Energy Aware feature makes it possible to feed excess electricity back into the grid and thus save electricity.”

The project scope in detail:

  • UPS Communication Interface
  • Detailed implementation planning and assembly planning
  • Modular and scalable Eaton IT UPS System 93PM G2 with 200kW / 200kVA equipped with 4 pieces of hot-swap 50kW power modules
  • Stationary IT-UPS battery system designed with pure lead batteries in AGM technology for 30 minutes at 200kVA
  • IT-UPS H2 gas monitoring including alarm
  • Eaton Gigabit network card with UL and IEC cyber security certification and environmental sensor for monitoring ambient temperature and humidity values
  • Eaton NST & UPS Switchgear with EBS 630A Bypass Switch and UPS Communication Interface
  • IT raised floor upgrade for UPS system and battery system
  • IT-UPS Energy, Control, Measurement and Communication System Cabling

Investment in the digital future: HABAU relies on data centre from EPS Electric Power Systems

The HABAU GROUP has invested in the modernization of its IT infrastructure – with a high-availability data center, planned and implemented by EPS Electric Power Systems. The owner-managed family business with around 6,500 employees has been operating internationally for more than a century and is now one of the leading players in the Austrian construction industry. Whether it’s building construction, civil engineering, tunnel construction or pipeline construction, the HABAU GROUP is broadly positioned – and therefore also needs an IT infrastructure that can keep pace with this complexity.
