Extraordinary weather events are no longer uncommon in Germany. This has prompted the administration of the retirement home in Mettmann to revise the emergency plans of the home and to purchase an emergency power supply in the form of a generator. Marwin Bremkamp, administrative manager at the facility for over 20 years, is responsible for accounting. Due to his technical affinity, he also provides support with technical matters. When he was looking for an emergency power device on the Internet, he came across the family-owned company EPS Rechenzentrum Infrastruktur GmbH from Straubing, Bavaria.

Purchase of the emergency power generator
Weather phenomena in Germany, such as the floods in the Ahr Valley in 2021, have highlighted the vulnerability of the infrastructure. The nursing home is surrounded by two small streams that swell during heavy rain and flooded the heating system in 2021. These events, but also the development of general emergency concepts (such as for power failures), made the management team of the Neandertal retirement home aware that the facility must be prepared in the best possible way for such emergencies. A funding program specifically for retirement homes and hospitals also helped to make the decision.
Implementation challenges
One of the biggest challenges was the lack of knowledge about how to handle an emergency generator. The support of a specialist planner was crucial. As a state-certified electrical engineer, he was able to support the decision with his knowledge in the field of electrics and fire protection.
EPS as an industry-experienced provider
Marwin Bremkamp: “The care facility was looking for an emergency power device with suitable capacity and good value for money. EPS’s offer was convincing due to its quality and transparency. The detailed documentation was helpful in having all the relevant information.” There were many offers, but in the end the nursing home decided in favor of EPS based on the expertise of a specialist planner.
The EPS Team
The EPS team was very open and helpful. The training during commissioning was comprehensive, and the technician patiently answered all questions. At EPS, transparency and customer service are very important.
“We thank you for the trust. From the very beginning, the cooperation was on an equal footing, and both sides were taken seriously. The communication was smooth and fast,” emphasizes Diana Engel, project manager at EPS.
