Maria Anzbach / Vienna – The mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna is one of the largest music universities in Europe. It has existed since 1817 and forms approx. 3000 students from more than 70 nations. The university’s IT management is responsible for the infrastructure at all locations. The need for higher IT security and data volume has continued to increase in recent years. Accordingly, higher efficiency and IT availability were required for the university.
New IT infrastructure for the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna by EPS
With the planning and optimization of two existing server rooms the company EPS Electric Power Systems GmbH was commissioned. True to the principle of “never fail”, the total solution provider EPS was also commissioned with the modernization of another server room. Ronald Köhne, network organizer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, is satisfied with the modernization of the IT rooms: “It is a great pleasure for me to know that the entire IT infrastructure, from RCS (Regulated Cooling Solutions) server cabinets to structured network data cabling, is now state-of-the-art. There is now sufficient space in the server cabinets as well as in the server room itself. This makes it easier for us to access the equipment and do our daily work.” Furthermore, the structured fiber optic & CU data cabling was also properly manufactured according to current standards.
Hermann Rothe, Head of the Communication Systems Department, mentions the extremely efficient cooling of the IT equipment through the use of the RCS racks with a targeted and adjustable cold air supply. “The integrated cold and hot area separation at rack level has massively reduced the overall energy consumption of the data centers and thus increased efficiency,” says Rothe. Peter Reisinger, Sales Manager of EPS, is pleased with the successful projects and thanks them for the many years of extremely cooperative cooperation.
