EPS Electric Power Solutions, a leading provider of individual server room solutions, has successfully implemented a state-of-the-art hybrid data center solution for LAOLA1, Austria’s largest digital sports field, at its new location in Vienna. The project combines local IT infrastructure with cloud solutions and meets the highest requirements in terms of availability, efficiency and latency.
Full power for uninterrupted sports enjoyment
With the relocation of LAOLA1, a company of the globally active Sportradar Group, to a new office building, the challenge arose to develop an IT infrastructure that would meet the complex requirements of a globally active video content provider. In addition to live commentators and studio broadcasts that are handled on site, video productions require low latency and maximum availability – even in the event of power outages.
“It quickly became clear to us that a purely cloud-based solution was not enough for us. A hybrid solution that combines cloud services with a powerful local IT infrastructure is the only way to deliver our services with the necessary speed and reliability worldwide and, above all, around the clock,” explains Gerald Stiglitz, Managing Director of LAOLA1.
EPS implemented the project within twelve months, from the feasibility study to the successful overall functional test and handover. The result: a scalable and modular data center infrastructure that meets the strict requirements. A highlight of the project was the implementation of an IT emergency power generator in a densely populated residential area. For this purpose, an innovative noise reduction and exhaust system technology has been developed to meet the requirements of a wide range of stakeholders.

Comprehensive complete solution from a single source
Peter Reisinger, Managing Director of EPS, is proud: “We have been able to accompany LAOLA1 as a partner since 2010. With this data center project, we were once again able to demonstrate our competence in the planning and implementation of tailor-made IT infrastructures despite challenges. Particularly exciting was the implementation of a graded, normative protection zone concept within the existing structural conditions. In addition, we were able to ensure smooth implementation through close coordination with all those involved in the project.”
The new data center infrastructure focuses on maximum efficiency and availability. A multi-path power supply system, modular UPS systems and hybrid data center air conditioning that has been seamlessly integrated into the existing building technology. The concept is rounded off by an innovative monitoring system that enables real-time monitoring of all critical parameters. In addition, the technical fire protection department was equipped with a fire prevention system developed and built in-house, which prevents a fire from occurring in the first place.
Erich Handschuh, Senior Vice President Engineering at LAOLA1, emphasizes the importance of the solution: “Thanks to EPS’s expertise, we were able to implement an infrastructure that perfectly meets our requirements. The hybrid solution not only enables us to achieve stable performance, but also flexibility for future developments.”
