EPS RHI Magnesita Data Center

RHI Magnesita – Complete Data Center Solution and ICT Cabling in Vienna

Highly available server room for RHI Magnesita GmbH at the new location in Vienna

In the course of RHI Magnesita’s relocation in Vienna, a highly innovative data center with maximum availability was planned and built by the total solution provider EPS Electric Power Systems GmbH. The fail-safe data center infrastructure with ICT cabling was built according to protection class 4 and achieves an even higher level of IT security for the refractory world market leader. RHI Magnesita is the world market leader for high-quality refractory products, system solutions and services. This makes RHI Magnesita indispensable for industrial high-temperature processes above 1200 °C in the steel, cement, glass or non-ferrous metal industries. RHI Magnesita serves more than 10,000 customers in almost all countries worldwide – from raw materials to refractory products. With over 14,000 employees in 35 main production plants and more than 70 sales locations, the company, headquartered in Vienna, has an unparalleled geographical diversity.

Fail-safe data center with ICT cabling

RHI Magnesita relocated its headquarters within Vienna and implemented a new data center with state-of-the-art IT infrastructure to the highest security standards. In accordance with the applicable data center (data center) standard DIN EN50600, the entire server room was planned, built and put into operation by the total solution provider EPS Electric Power Systems in just a few weeks. A higher level of security and higher availability could be achieved as a result. “EPS was particularly convincing against other providers due to its high level of technical expertise in the field of planning and conceptual design,” emphasizes Martin Zwettler, Director Global IT Infrastructure & Communication at RHI Magnesita. A special feature of this solution are three individual, separate fire compartments. It houses the IT whitespace, as well as the technical and battery rooms. These areas are protected by independent access control according to protection class 4. As part of the data center solution, a comprehensive ICT cabling concept from EPS was also planned and implemented. The structured fiber optic and CU data cabling includes the connection from the provider room to the server room, middle-of-row interrack cabling, redundant fiber optic building cabling to the floor distributors and horizontal Cat6A cabling to the workstations and access points.

Highest availability and security standards

Peter Reisinger, Sales and Project Manager at EPS, emphasizes the relevance of the selected availability class and adds: “The risk of failure has been massively reduced by the selected redundancy of the components. In the event of a permissible error, the infrastructure remains unaffected.” The data center and the associated technical rooms of RHI Magnesita were equipped with state-of-the-art IT infrastructure, including redundant and energy-efficient UPS systems with external batteries, a redundant air conditioning system, RCS (Regulated Cooling Solutions) server acks, a fire prevention system, early fire detection, a leak detection system, and a higher-level monitoring system. Within a few weeks, a highly innovative data center with state-of-the-art data cabling was created for RHI Magnesita that meets the highest security and availability standards. Paul Kreuz, Leading IT Site Administrator Vienna, concludes: “The time factor was certainly a challenge due to the move. However, the entire project with the EPS team was very solution-oriented and technically flawless.”

Investment in the digital future: HABAU relies on data centre from EPS Electric Power Systems

The HABAU GROUP has invested in the modernization of its IT infrastructure – with a high-availability data center, planned and implemented by EPS Electric Power Systems. The owner-managed family business with around 6,500 employees has been operating internationally for more than a century and is now one of the leading players in the Austrian construction industry. Whether it’s building construction, civil engineering, tunnel construction or pipeline construction, the HABAU GROUP is broadly positioned – and therefore also needs an IT infrastructure that can keep pace with this complexity.
