What are ePDU IP power strips?

Switchable and intelligent IT power strips

Enclosure Power Distribution Units, abbreviated ePDUs, are intelligent power distribution units or power distribution systems. IP power strips for IT, EDP and data center areas. ePDUs are specifically designed for use in data centers and IT environments to measure, manage, and monitor the energy consumption of individual consumers. The intelligent ePDU power distributors reliably and consistently supply the connected IT equipment in the server room or DataCenter.

The demand for energy and the ongoing technological change are constantly driving the demands on data center operators in terms of reliability and high availability. The operator of a server room must be equipped for these challenges and have highly developed equipment for the power supply in the DC and its monitoring. In particular, the increasing energy requirements of rackmount applications require a high degree of understanding of processes in the server, rack and plant area in order to be able to optimally manage and control the IT infrastructure.

We therefore recommend ePDUs to enable reliable, flexible and cost-efficient power distribution in the data center. At the same time, understanding improves and a more targeted recording and control of power consumption in the server room is made possible. High availability with ePDU power strips

Eaton offers a wide variety of ePDUs. In the following, the Eaton ePDU series is briefly explained and presented.

1. Eaton ePDU G3 Managed are controllable ePDUs. They switch and measure outputs and IT equipment at A and B feeds. The ePDU Eaton G3 Managed models provide complete shutdown control as well as measurement of devices, including those with power supplies via multiple ePDU strips.
2. Advanced Monitored ePDUs (Advanced Monitored ePDUs) with individually monitorable outlets
3. Monitored ePDUs with branch circuit and rack monitoring
4. Monitorable in-line ePDU (In-line Monitored) can be used to retrofit existing PDUs without current metering, as well as to retrofit without downtime.
5. Measuring ePDU (Metered) are equipped with an EasyRead digital ammeter, which makes it easier to set up and supply servers.

Monitoring by Intelligent Power Manager® (IPM)

The monitoring or Eaton adopts Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager® (IPM) power monitoring software. Intelligent software for ePDUs supports Eaton UPS installations as well as monitorable and controllable ePDUs to allow users to monitor and manage power and distribution from a single interface and IP address.
