Lithium-ion battery system: the heart of the uninterruptible power supply
A lithium-ion battery system for critical IT infrastructure is a modern solution for securing power supply in environments where an uninterruptible power supply is required. These systems use lithium-ion battery technology, which is also used in other application areas such as mobile phones, laptops and electric vehicles.
A battery system is an important component of IT UPS systems. “In the server room, the focus is on a secure power supply so that the supply to end consumers runs without interruption,” explains Christian Schnabl, sales representative in the UPS system service department at EPS Electric Power Systems. This is possible through the use of UPS systems and UPS battery systems. The EPS Lithium-Ion System Flex’ionTM is a fully integrated, ready-to-connect battery solution that is used in AC and DC applications. The modular design allows a wide DC voltage range to be covered.

Lithium-ion battery system for critical IT infrastructure
Thanks to its modular design (from the cell to the battery module to the system) and its power density, the battery system is suitable for use in data centers, utilities and industrial plants.
The battery system is independent and designed for external installation. It is connected directly to the UPS system . The battery system serves as a backup power supply to ensure that in the event of a power failure, the batteries together with the UPS can supply the connected loads (e.g. a data center) without interruption for a defined period of time.
The performance of the lithium-ion battery system
By connecting Flex’ionTM systems in parallel, outputs of up to 4 MW can be achieved. The Flex’ionTM system can be expanded during operation.
UPS battery system service and maintenance
It is important to ensure that the battery system is regularly maintained. This increases the safety and availability of the system and guarantees that the UPS system and batteries are ready for operation at all times.
What does regular maintenance mean?
- Annual preventive review of the system
- Cleaning the system and accessories (ventilation)
- Measurement, testing and documentation of the individual batteries (battery modules)

The most important advantages at a glance:
- Safety in operation through the use of the patented Super Lithium Iron Phosphate SLFPTM technology in conjunction with specially coordinated components (cells, electronics, hardware, software)
- Compliance with the highest safety standards e.g. UL9540A, 1973, IEC 62619
- Modular, scalable architecture and thus possibility of adapting to power or energy requirements
- No ventilation required in the battery compartment
- Parallel connection of battery strings possible
- Fast recharging after mains failure
- Large, interactive 7-inch touchscreen display
- Communication interfaces CANopen, ModBus TCP/IP, DNP3, relay contacts
- Mechanically high-quality system cabinets (earthquake certified according to IEEE693 and Bellcore GR-63, Zone 4, among others)
- Up to 20 years of service life
- Made in the EU
- Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePo for short) technology
- High cost savings in air conditioning due to possible ambient temperatures of up to +35°C
