IT specialist EPS Electric Power Systems ensures secure power supply
Vienna/Maria-Anzbach, on 05. September 2023 – Power outages, whether for a few minutes or several hours, are no longer uncommon in Vienna. For the manufacturing biopharmaceutical industry, power outages pose a particularly high risk. Biomay AG in the 22. Aspern, a biopharmaceutical manufacturer of innovative products such as recombinant proteins and plasmid DNA. “As a biotech company, power outages would be problematic. They could lead to our semi-finished and finished products becoming unusable. A momentous outcome that would cost time and a lot of money and would mean a waste of resources. To counteract this and secure our power supply, we decided to implement an emergency power generator that can supply the entire building in an emergency,” says Andreas Karner, Facility Manager at Biomay. Werner Zingl, Managing Director of the engineering firm TECH. CON adds: “An energy-efficient solution and many years of experience on the part of the project partner were important to us, which is why we chose the team from EPS Electric Power Systems when awarding the contract.”
1,000kVA diesel emergency generator set for high availability safety power supply
A Kohler IT-Diesel emergency power generator was dimensioned and installed as an emergency power system with 1,000kVA / 800kW power. EPS preconfigured it in the company’s own company building, later programmed it on site and, after intensive testing, trial operation and customer training, was able to hand it over turnkey. Peter Reisinger, Sales Manager of EPS and Commercial Director of the project, explains: “The new heart of Biomay’s fail-safe safety power supply is located outside the company building in a mobile 20-foot container. In a compact container emergency power generator that contains everything that is essential for an emergency power system.” This includes the drive engine, power generator, cooling system, an exhaust system with exhaust damper, supply and exhaust air system, emergency power switchgear with integrated NEA control for permanent grid parallel operation for 2 power grids as well as the fuel system consisting of a 1500 litre diesel tank, which can still be expanded externally.
A joint project plan was drawn up for the takeover, which includes the work on several weekends or weekends. public holidays, so that the emergency power supply could be converted and put into operation without interruption.
The project in detail:
- Detailed planning of the NEA container including elaboration and creation of a cable directory
- Coordination with the responsible RUs for the permission for grid-parallel operation including the supply of network and system protection (NA protection) in accordance with current TOR guidelines
- Turnkey delivery, installation of an IT emergency power generator with 1000kVA / 800kW PRP power according to ISO8528
- Emergency power system designed as an emergency power generator in a 20-foot soundproofing container with exhaust gas silencer, supply and exhaust air openings, rain screens, lighting and the necessary NEA room equipment
- NEA control for two path feeds and continuous grid-parallel operation
- Commissioning, adjustment, trial operation and functional test including cross-trade black-building test
- EPS rental emergency power generator for the conversion phases in the NSHV switchgear
