Maria Anzbach / Attnang-Puchheim – The server room of the internationally active STIWA Group supplies all of the group’s locations worldwide from its headquarters in Attnang-Puchheim, Upper Austria. In order to continue to ensure optimal integration of business processes and to be able to react more quickly and flexibly in the event of a system failure, the STIWA Group decided to build a new state-of-the-art data center according to availability classes 3 and 4 (according to EN50600-1) at the main location.
High-availability data center with structured ICT cabling
The requirements for the data center infrastructure specialist were high from the outset: In addition to the existing server room, which no longer met the availability requirements, a new data center (DC) was to be built. This was to impress with high availability, reliability and scalability. “The data center availability of the new server room infrastructure must be ensured according to current standards. Both the entire power supply and the air conditioning are designed as a multi-path supply with 2N redundancy. A 2(N+1) was produced by modular UPS systems per path to ensure the required availability even during maintenance work,” explains Stefan Austaller, IT division manager at STIWA.
IT emergency power generator as emergency power system
“An IT emergency power generator with a grid-parallel operation control system was built as an emergency power system. This ensures uninterrupted resynchronization to the grid when the utilities return to the grid. This makes it possible to carry out regular emergency power system tests without additional load banks,” adds Peter Reisinger, Sales Manager at EPS. The redundancy concepts of the data center infrastructure also enable regular maintenance of the mission-critical systems during operation.
Fire compartments with early fire detection
In addition to a secure power supply and energy-efficient air conditioning, attention was also paid to the structural infrastructure and security technology: Data center areas, such as the IT whitespace with climate clasp, UPS, battery and technical rooms, were designed as separate fire compartments and equipped with early fire detection and an automatic extinguishing system. Furthermore, the areas were arranged and equipped according to the protection zone concept according to EN50600-2-5.
Higher IT security level with Eaton UPS and IPM software
Particular attention is paid to the modular and scalable UPS safety power supply. Peter Reisinger emphasizes the implemented UPS software solution IPM (Intelligent Power Manager): “The IPM software leads to an even higher level of IT security, because it monitors and manages the physical and virtual systems.”
The combination of the IPM software with the STIWA Group’s central house fire alarm system offers even greater security. This allows systems to be shut down or shut down in an orderly manner. to another server room. The UPS network cards used meet cyber security standards according to IEC62443-7-2 and UL 2900-1 and round off the state-of-the-art data center solution of the STIWA Group.
In conclusion, Stefan Austaller emphasizes the good cooperation with EPS: “The cooperation with EPS worked very well across all departments, from the concept to the processing to the acceptance. At EPS, we get a lot from a single source, plus good service. This makes them an ideal partner for us.”
