Hörmann – Server room upgrade with state-of-the-art IT infrastructure

Server room upgrade for Hörmann Austria

IT infrastructure expert EPS implements high-availability server room complete solution

The German family-owned company Hörmann Austria Ges.m.b.H. is considered a global pioneer in the manufacture of components. With its Austrian headquarters directly on Lake Mondsee, the company impresses with smart technology and high-performance drives in the field of garage doors, front doors and interior doors.

In order to continue to guarantee the uninterrupted production and further development of garage door operators and functional front doors, Hörmann’s IT infrastructure also underwent a modernization process. The company decided to completely rebuild the existing server room components (UPS systems, UPS power strips, IT server racks, IT raised floor, fire protection measures, etc.). The data center specialist EPS Electric Power Systems GmbH was commissioned for this purpose.

Markus Six, Head of IT at the Mondsee site, recalls: “We wanted a competent partner who would support us from planning to construction and commissioning. With EPS, we have found exactly the server room solution we had in mind.” Markus Six also emphasizes the relevance of high availability and reliability for the entire Hörmann company. “This requirement was at the top of our priority list. EPS convinced us with the overall concept, which combines the topics of security and increased efficiency in accordance with the DIN EN50600 data center standard .”

"The implementation of the plants and systems went flawlessly. The biggest challenge was to install the existing ICT floor cabling system from the given floor distributor into a new IT network rack. This hub played a special role in the project, as different media and networks from all over the building come together here."

Fire suppression through technical fire prevention

In order to provide the highest level of technical fire protection for the mission-critical IT system components, the Eaton 93PS UPS system was housed in a separate room. In order to maintain availability, the conversion work had to be carried out quickly during ongoing operations. The new server room was therefore built and put into operation by the EPS technical team in just a few days. “The implementation of the plants and systems went flawlessly,” recalls Peter Reisinger, Sales Manager at EPS. “The biggest challenge was to install the existing ICT floor cabling system from the given floor distributor into a new IT network rack. This hub played a special role in the project, as different media and networks from all over the building come together here.”

UPS maintenance as a carefree package

Professional maintenance is crucial for the reliability and sustainability of the entire UPS system, which is why a UPS maintenance package with full maintenance (“carefree package”) was also concluded.

Investment in the digital future: HABAU relies on data centre from EPS Electric Power Systems

The HABAU GROUP has invested in the modernization of its IT infrastructure – with a high-availability data center, planned and implemented by EPS Electric Power Systems. The owner-managed family business with around 6,500 employees has been operating internationally for more than a century and is now one of the leading players in the Austrian construction industry. Whether it’s building construction, civil engineering, tunnel construction or pipeline construction, the HABAU GROUP is broadly positioned – and therefore also needs an IT infrastructure that can keep pace with this complexity.
